10 Steps to an easy peasy poodle skirt!
Hello Everyone! Just wanted to post a super quick way to make a poodle skirt for Halloween! Not sure it's the right way, but it worked for me! Here's the steps:
1 - Measure the length of your little one from the waist down to where you want the end of the skirt to fall. Measure her waist too.
2 - Purchase felt in the color you want. I got mine at JoAnn's & used a coupon. Go ahead and grab some ribbon, elastic, and a poodle iron on applique while you are there!
3 - Lay the fabric out flat on the floor. Cut large piece to a square. Find the center by folding in half and then half again. This is where you will cut out the circle the size of her waist. I just cut a little piece out to mark the center and then unfolded it. I then used a pencil and a tape measurer and went around in a circle from the center marking with pencil where I wanted to cut out for the waist. 1/2 the waist measurement since marking from the center.
4 - Cut out the circle in the center for the waist.
5 - Now cut out the outside circle (bottom of the skirt. Use the measurement you took from her waist to the where you wanted the bottom of the skirt to fall for this. Measure all the way around, marking with a pencil as a cut guide. Pencil line should look like a big circle.
6 - Cut out the bottom of the skirt.
7 - Sew on the stretch elastic to the waist. I cut the elastic 3 inches smaller than her waist so that it would fit nice without falling down. You will need to gather the felt a little as you go.
8 - Iron on the poodle applique. You can stitch around it if you want to... I didn't. I know...I'm lazy like that.
9 - Sew on the ribbon (leash) for the poodle. You can use liquid stitch if you want.
10 - Step back and admire your work!
All done! I told you it was easy! I'm all about doing things the quick & easy way!
